Philadelphia Latter-day Saint Youth is a non-profit organization created to help organize and fund life-changing activities for Philadelphia youth. We work to provide opportunities that would not otherwise be possible for these under-privileged youth in an effort to increase their spirituality and devotion to serving the Savior.
We are trying once again to give our youth a chance to experience the spiritual high of an EFY trip. With the help of wonderful people across the country, we have been able to send several groups of youth to experience EFY over the last few years. It was a life-changing experience for them, and because of it one young woman is now attending college in Utah and several others have worked there over the summer, gaining incalculable experience and new skills.
Our non-profit organization is mostly made up of members of the Philadelphia 4th ward, which takes in much of West Philadelphia and is composed primarily of low-income families and debt-ridden young student families. This being the case, we look beyond our ward boundaries for people with the means, compassion and generosity to make opportunites for Philly LDS youth possible.
Many of you have donated generously to our cause over the last few years, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We ask now for your continued support. We are happy to announce that our youth will be personally earning 50% of their EFY tuition. Please know that a donation in any amount will be greatly appreciated by all involved. I love that you are blogging about all of this. I totally believe in the power of EFY (Especially For Youth). This is a truly amazing experience that these kids will NEVER EVER forget! I am posting a link to YOUR blog via mine. I know that my own personal testimony of my savior Jesus Christ was planted in me by goodly parents since my birth. However, the "watering" and "nourishing" of that testimony occured while I was most impressionable - during my young women years. I had fabulous leaders. I had a desire to choose the right because of the foundation that our church teaches; that I *am* a beloved daughter of My Heavenly Father who loves me. My favorite callings in the church have always been serving with the Young Women, in the presidency and in Girls' Camp. Now that I live in Utah as an adult, I sometimes forget what it's like to be the "minority" in a non-Mormon community. thanks again for your blog and for the missionary tool that it is, and for the message that it spreads. Your youth look like they are simply amazing!
